
Shane Finnerty
Shane is a native of Galway City and is a retired member of the Reserve Irish Defence Forces (5th Field Engineer Coy – Galway)
He worked as a radio broadcaster on the legendary Coast 103 radio station back in the 80’s. His media career began back in 1982 in Galway on WCCR radio. He emigrated to New York in 1990, where he taught Radio Broadcasting in the Bronx . He moved to Los Angeles in ’93 where he founded the Irish Scoop magazine and Spud TV and Radio. He also worked as an Audio Visual Technician on all major shows and exhibitions in Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, Palm Springs and Las Vegas. Clients he has worked for include Google, Microsoft, Sony, HP and E3 (the world’s biggest gaming exhibition).
He is a graduate of the Hollywood Film Institute ’98 and a former member of the Los Angeles Police Emerald Society. He is currently a member of the O.N.E. Veterans Association here in Galway since 2018 and recently received his TEFL certificate for teaching english as a second language in 2021.
Always up for a challenge, Shane is delighted to be a part of this journey, to honor the Galwaymen who fell on foreign soil and to have their names shown and spoken with respect, in this forthcoming Galway Great War Memorial. Five members of the Finnerty family, never made it home from the Great War!
