Additional Information:  According to newspapers, the Boston Globe, he was the son of Patrick & Mary (nee Walsh) Welby. If the newspapers are correct his parents married in Moycullen in 1872.  These papers also claim Thomas was born in Boston. However both Thomas’s Draft card and MGR states he was born in Galway, Ireland. A sister who arrived  in Boston in 1925 listing mother’s address as ‘Oiwer East’, Rosscahill, Co Galway. Thomas died in hospital at Fort Hamilton. In World War One a great deal of growth was seen at Fort Hamilton, with new recruits and trainees arriving to prepare for service in Europe.
