Neptune, built in Galmpton in 1889 and owned at the time of her loss by Martin Ashe, Dublin, was an Irish fishing vessel (smack) of 50 tons.

On December 17th, 1917, Neptune was sunk by a mine from the German submarine U-80 (Karl Scherb), 4.5 miles north of Black Head. The minefield was known as ‘barrage 93’ and was laid on May 10th, 1917. 4 persons were lost.
